Team Structure
Formatted like a
business, Cougars Gone Wired divides itself into two categories of sub-teams: business
and technical. Each sub-team is headed by a student vice president (VP). All members
belong to one business sub-team and one technical sub-team, evenly spreading responsibilities
throughout the team. The leadership is chosen through an application process in
which mentors interview and assess students based on character, knowledge,
and abilities.
At the head of our “business,” the CEO oversees robot completion,
directs work, and leads the team to success. The CFO mediates
contact between sponsors or potential sponsors and the team, monitors the creation of
the business plan, and organizes fundraising.
This structure gives
students an opportunity to act under management similar to a real workplace and gain
leadership experience.
Although the team is student-led, we could not be what we are
without mentors. Our mentors are people who work in the STEM industry and have a passion for
inspiring youth.
